Aragorn
I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn; and if by life or death I can save you, I will.
full name, Aragorn II
nicknames, King Elessar Telcontar, Estel, Thorongil and Strider
age, 88 (looks about late thirties)
class/profession, King of Gondor and Arnor
marital status, Single
race, Man, more specifically the Dúnedain of the North
alliance, Fellowship of the ring / Gandalf / Rohan / Loyal Gondorians
hair, Aragorn has a shaggy shoulder length dark brown hair with a few white strands at places. He also possesses a short length full beard.
eyes, He has blue very alive but sad eyes.
build and body, Aragorn stands 6'6'' tall and is quite fit for his age due to his previous life in the wilderness as a Ranger.
anything else, Bow and arrows for hunting and his sword, Andúril, for fighting. He is always seen in either dark Ranger like clothes or his royal Gondor armor. It depends on if he wants to be recognized as the king or not as he walks.
face claim, Viggo Mortensen
likes,
- Traveling: Being a former nomad Ranger, Aragorn has traveled around Middle Earth quite a bit during his long years of life and has come to terms with having to change places quite often so he can be where he is needed now that he is king.
- Elvish Culture: As he was raised at Rivendell by his mother and Lord Elrond, Aragorn has come to appreciate much of the Elven culture. He speaks their language fluently and knows many of their songs by heart.
- Arwen: Since his twenties he has been in love with Lord Elrond's daughter. If that shall change or is reciprocated is anyone's guess at the moment.
- Rohan: Aragorn has a great respect for the Rohirrim specially all the members of Rohan's royal house: King Théoden, Éomer and Éowyn.
- Gondor: For long years Aragorn wanted to return to the lands of his ancestors and even though things are not optimum at the moment, he is still very fond of the kingdom and will do his best to allow it to rise to its best again.
- His lineage: Aragorn is very proud of his ancestors and what they have accomplished for Middle Earth even considering the mistakes they've made along the line. He hopes to follow on their footsteps and leave a legacy to be valued as well.
dislikes,
- Foul creatures of Mordor / Isengard: Aragorn has spent most of his life years hunting Orcs, Trolls and other dark creatures sent by the Dark Lord and loathes all of them, no matter who sends them on others now.
- Saruman: Like any free person on Middle Earth, Aragorn dislikes the fallen Istari just as much as he did the defeated Dark Lord of Mordor and will fight against him and his forces to his last strengths.
- Denethor: Aragorn thinks very poorly of the former Steward of Gondor. Not only he has brought shame to an always known to be proud and noble people, but also he attacked the lands of old friends of the kingdom, Rohan, which to the new king is considered as being an act of high treason.
- Being slowed down: Aragorn does not like to loose time with minor things of convenience, such as the many meals Hobbits seem to indulge during the course of a day, when speed is of great importance to the fulfillment of the current mission or the safety of his companions.
- Treason: Aragorn considers it the height of dishonor for anyone to betray a vow made and will think lowly of those who do such a thing.
strengths,
- Tracking: Aragorn is a master tracker and can pick up even the faintest signs left on the earth by other creatures. He can track even light foot beings such as Hobbits.
- Healing: Aragorn is a very accomplished field healer, knows how to collect and the several names by which many plants used in healing are called throughout Middle Earth.
- Sword fighting: Aragorn is known as one of the best swordsmen on Middle Earth.
- Leadership: Aragorn has a presence and a great sense of his own responsibility, yet at the same time he is a humbler person than one might expect from a king. He is someone one can count on and would never send anyone to do something he would not do so himself.
- Loyalty: Maybe that is one of Aragorn's greatest strengths. The last thing he would consciously allow himself to do is to betray, disappoint or leave his friends behind in any way if that can be averted. Aragorn would go to any lengths to make sure that they are well and that the new objective at hand is fulfilled, which is defeating Saruman and Denethor.
- Lay of the land: Aragorn has been to many places in Middle Earth and knows his way to them. Actually he knows several ways to get to several different important places, including some short cuts from a few to a few others. In a nutshell, he is a great guide.
weaknesses,
- Trust: Aragorn tends to believe in the known ancient nobleness of his kin and that sometimes makes it hard for him to tell friend from foe within the ranks of the now tumulted realm of Gondor, courtesy of Denethor.
- The former fellowship: Aragorn would willingly sacrifice himself for the safety of his former companions, whom he considers as real friends, and thus they are one of his weaknesses.
- Pride: Aragorn can be sometimes over-proud and at first refuse to part with his possessions, especially his sword, even when such would've been seen as a gesture of good will or no harm intent.
- Archery: Even though Aragorn was raised and trained amongst Elves, who are ace in this skill as a rule of thumb, he is not to their level in it at all. He is a good hunter and can bullseye something that is moving, like a rabbit, but he is no Robin Hood or Legolas. Not even close to that.
- Nobility in Action: Though many would see this as a strength, including Aragorn himself, to him in his current situation it is a weakness as it makes him unable to return some treasons on the same coin.
fears,
- Saruman's victory over the free peoples of Middle Earth and the world getting enveloped in despair again.
- Failing the ones who placed their trust in his abilities, especially the former members of the fellowship and his subjects.
- Not being able to reunite the realm of Gondor as a single nation again as he feels responsible for some of its rifts.
dreams,
- See the world free of Sauron's legacy forever through the final defeat of Saruman, Denethor and their armies.
- Help rebuild everything that has been destroyed by the dark armies and age, including the old realm of Arnor.
- Help give back a sense of friendship and unity to the world of Men.
- Constituting a family to let his lineage go on
personality, One of the key aspects of Aragorn's personality is his selflessness and from there stems all his other characteristics. He is nothing but a dependable person. You can always rely on him for help or guidance, especially if you need to go somewhere safely. He would consider it the height of dishonor to mistrust or betray a companion for any reason. He has lived for a long time, considering he is a Man, due to his Dúnedain lineage, and so being he has a kind of wisdom that comes with age and experience. Also Aragorn has been living in the wilderness since his twenties, so for about 70 years now, and has seen many battles and wars against the forces of Sauron, so he is a little stoic in his demeanor as well.
Aragorn in the field is a fierce warrior and a swordsman with very few equals. He won't back down faced with nothing that Mordor or Isengard can create. Yes, he may be afraid, but he won't let his fear dominate him for long. His vows are infinitely more important to him than his safety. He is also someone very perceptive, who knows how to listen and usually knows what to say to inspire others into action, which makes of him an effective field leader when added to his experience. He is the kind of person who leads through example, never sending anyone to do something he wouldn't be willing to do himself beside them.
Aragorn is also a noble and honorable man. He would never simply expect the loyalty of his subjects just because it is rightfully his to be had without giving anything back in return. He would lay down his life for his people and Gondor. So when cities start to wish to declare themselves separate from the central power and appoint their own representation, Aragorn, unlike other rulers, will not force them back into his allegiance. He will though grant the realm's official protection and that of its friends, like Rohan, for any separate city upon external attack. That might be a naive thought of his, but Aragorn believes that he can win such separate cities' allegiances back through his actions against Saruman and Denethor, thus proving to all that he is not just an able leader but also one who cares about his subjects and their safety.

history, In the year 2931 of the Third Age, Aragorn was born from Arathorn II and Gilraen. When he was a two year old toddler, his father was killed while hunting Orcs. His mother then took him to Rivendell where he was fostered by Lord Elrond. His ancestry and lineage being withheld from him by Gilraen's request to keep him safer from persecution and meeting an untimely death. Aragorn, for this reason, was then renamed Estel.
His true name and ancestry were revealed to him at age 20, after which he received from Elrond some of his rightful heirlooms that were kept in Imladris for the purpose of safety due to the nomadic lifestyle of the Dúnedain of the North. These heirlooms were the Ring of Barahir, which he was to give to his chosen wife, and the shards of Narsil, the legendary sword of Elendil, which was reforged and renamed Andúril. It was also by this time that Aragorn met and fell in love with Arwen, sole daughter of Elrond, as she returned from a long stay with her grandmother Galadriel at Lothlórien. His mother questioned him when she began to notice a change in his behavior and afraid that such infatuation could end her son's lineage due to Elrond not being willing to give the hand of his daughter to a mortal man like her son, she convinced Aragorn it was his fate to wander in the Wild. Aragorn then became the 16th Chieftain of the Dúnedain and joined the ranks of the Rangers of the North.
Aragorn met Gandalf, the Grey, in the year 2956 of the Third Age and they became fast friends. Upon the Istari's request, he began to guard the land known as the Shire with his Rangers, where he became known as Strider in its surrounding areas, such as the village of Bree. From 2957 to 2980, Aragorn has gone in great journeys while serving with the armies of King Thengel of Rohan and Steward Ecthelion of Gondor. Generally his tasks helped with raising morale in the West and were effective in countering the forces of Sauron and his allies. During such quests Aragorn has earned invaluable experience he would later draw on. While undertaking such quests, he served in disguise being known as Thorongil.
After this period of time, Aragorn also traveled through the Dwarven Mines of Moria and visited Harad where the stars looked strange. In the year 3009 of the Third Age, Gandalf grew suspicious of the origins of the ring which now belonged to his friend Bilbo Baggins, which he believed to be the dreaded One Ring of Sauron. Aragorn then went into Rhovanion in search of the creature Gollum from whom Bilbo had acquired the ring. He caught him in the Dead Marshes near Mordor and brought him captive to Thranduil's Halls in Mirkwood where Gandalf later questioned the creature.
After Bilbo's birthday party and Frodo's inheritance of the One Ring, Aragorn met with the latter and his three Hobbit companions, Merry, Pippin and Sam at the Inn of the Prancing Pony in Bree where the Halflings where waiting for Gandalf. The Hobbits were at first suspicious of him, but eventually they came to trust the man they knew only as Strider by then. Together they escaped the Ringwraiths, who were after the One Ring for Sauron, and reached Rivendell where Frodo's injuries could properly be tended to unlike in the field, even though Aragorn did his best to stabilize them until they could reach Imladris and the Hobbit could receive Elven help for his Nazgul blade injuries. During the council of Elrond, when the fellowship of the ring, tasked with Frodo's protection and the ultimate destruction of the One Ring, was formed, Aragorn offered himself to be a part of it. He was present at the attempts to cross Caradhras and the Mines of Moria, where he helped the others in the ensuing melee within against Orcs and Trolls.
After the fall of Gandalf at Mines of Moria fighting against the Balrog, Aragorn took upon himself leadership of the fellowship and led them into the Elven forest of Lothlorien where they've met with Celeborn and Galadriel, receiving some gifts, food and prophecies for their journey ahead. Later, he lead them down the river Anduin to the Falls of Rauros. Truth be told, Aragorn originally planned to go to Gondor and aid its people in the war, but now he was responsible for the others and that thwarted such plans.
After passing through the Argonath, the fellowship camped in Amon Hen. There Boromir entered in conflict with Frodo over the ring. What happened exactly was not known and was soon forgotten by the arrival of Saruman's Uruk-hai and the battle that ensued. Frodo and Sam had already departed to follow their own path into Mordor when the battle ended and only then did the rest of the fellowship know they were gone. Merry and Pippin were captured by the new and improved Orc army of Saruman's. Boromir chose to leave to Gondor and even though Aragorn wanted to go that way too, he felt responsible for the Hobbits' capture and honor bound to rescue them first.
Leading Legolas and Gimli, Aragorn went after Merry and Pippin. Their many days quest lead the Three Hunters, as they became known by the Rohirrim, into the lands of the horse riders, Rohan, where Aragorn had served before. Their first encounter was with Éomer, nephew of the King, who had been pursuing rumors of an Orc raid in the area. From him, they've learned that the Orcs they were after had been killed by the Rohirrim, yet Hobbits were not found with them after a description of what they were was given to Éomer.
Dejected, Aragorn led Legolas and Gimli to the site of the battle, where he found tracking clues that the Hobbits had escaped the massacre and took refuge into Fangorn Forest. The trio went deep within the forest to find their lost companions and find them they did. From there, they went to Edoras to rest and ask the king's assistance before continuing their journey towards Gondor. There they found that King Théoden was weakened and unfit to help Gondor and the fellowship in the war of the ring.
Again met with a dead end, being unable to brake himself Saruman's hold on the king, Aragorn decided to leave Rohan just with his companions and lead them towards Gondor. Éowyn, nice of the king, gave them horses for their journey. Though something unexpected happened in the morning they were about to leave, there was a huge volcanic explosion and then a black cloud that slowly dissipated could be seen in the distance over Mordor. Somehow, Frodo and Sam had managed to complete their task in record time. The companions rejoiced and hoped for the Hobbits' safe return, even though they had no way to know where they were.
There was another unknown surprise though. Gandalf had somehow resurrected and was back, bringing the Hobbits to join their companions through the means of huge flying eagles. There Gandalf freed Théoden from Saruman's clutches, but the war was now over with the confirmation of Sauron's defeat by Gandalf and Frodo. Well, that was what they thought anyway, but Sauron had managed to do his damage and make sure it would outlast himself by having turned both Saruman and Denethor through the use of their palantiri and deception.
The next thing that happened was a huge attack on Rohan by no other than the forces of Gondor itself sent by Denethor. This enraged Aragorn who saw such action not just as an act of betrayal to an old alliance and friendship, but also an act of betrayal towards Gondor itself. He fought beside Théoden, his riders and the fellowship members. In the meantime Saruman's forces were growing stronger. He managed to take most of Mirkwood Forest and kept his hold of Isengard, not to mention some hold over Gondor through Denethor.
That was an issue that had to be solved, thus Théoden and the fellowship decided they had no other choice but to move against Gondor and expel Denethor from Minas Tirith. Naturally it fell to Aragorn to assume the Gondorian throne, due to his lineage, after that, taking the title of king Elessar Telcontar, which means Elfstone Strider in the Elven language. Elessar was the name given to him by Galadriel at Lothlorien and he chose to use it after his coronation. He though is still mostly known as Aragorn, son of Arathorn.
As king, Aragorn reaffirmed the old friendship between the royal houses of Gondor and Rohan and pledged to fight the forces of Saruman and Denethor, dealing with whichever traitors that could still be found within the kingdom. Needless to say that Gondor is now a torn realm and Aragorn is doing his best to rally its cities back around the center power at Minas Tirith, but he knows he must prove himself to his people before he can claim their loyalty. Some think he is a traitor who wasn't there during Gondor's greatest hour of need, some think he is an usurper due to not knowing what Denethor was up to, yet some do know where Aragorn is coming from and will help him to put Gondor back on track.

rp sample,
(I took the liberty to change this scene a little for the purpose of this sample post. It follows neither movie nor book. It's like a sort of AU scene.)
Being warned by Gandalf of what could be happening soon, Aragorn made it his vow to be present when the Istari's Hobbit friends arrived at Bree. 'Wasn't there supposed to be only two of them?' The Ranger thought to himself seeing four of the Halflings enter the Inn of the Prancing Pony. They stood apart in the crowd due to their height. Not that it mattered how many they were anyway. He was to keep an eye on them and protect them as they were carrying something precious. What this something precious was, Aragorn could only suppose due to his last mission for his Wizard friend.
His perceptive eyes scanned all the room for threats towards the little ones. Soon there was a commotion… Baggins was now revealed as himself by one of his companions. Beneath the hood that was covering his face, Aragorn was paying attention to the positions of the Hobbits. If things grew too complicated for them, he'd have to interfere. And then it happened… Suddenly he could no longer see one of the Hobbits, Frodo. Aragorn's eyes went wide and searched the room even more avidly. Nothing. He was ready to interfere and take the Halflings out into a room where he could keep both his eyes on them until the morning.
Though the Hobbits, the fourth having mysteriously unvanished, started to go upstairs on their own accord. Aragorn silently and quietly followed them up and as they closed their room's door, he made his presence noticed through his voice. "That was an interesting demonstration down there. I can avoid being seen if so I desire, but to disappear completely is not something I ever heard of…" He said, showing himself to the Hobbits. Aragorn knew that they wouldn't know who he was, but anyway he'd have to convince the little ones to take him along. He checked if there was anyone outside the door who could listen in, closed it, took a seat and then continued.
"Your… business is a dangerous one as are those who are after you. I may know a few things about both and I can impart my knowledge to you right now. I only ask one thing in return: that you take me as your guide and that is a deal breaker. I'll answer whichever questions you might have to prove my good will… By the way, at these parts I'm known as Strider." Aragorn's voice was direct, incisive, a bit threatening at parts, yet humble overall. He knew that his vagrant appearance would not be helpful to his intent, but they had to accept his offer or they would never reach Rivendell alive with the Nazgul following them as Aragorn had heard accounts of the Black Knights at this region lately and soon they would be zeroing in on them after Frodo's little stunt downstairs.
